Canvass of Montgomery County
Republican Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia
As Chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Committee, and Pursuant to The Plan of Organization and as recommended by the Committee, I, Robert Dickenson, do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass (Firehouse Primary) to be held:
Saturday, May 20, 2017 between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm at the following location: Montgomery County Government Center
755 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg, VA 24073 (Montgomery County registered voters only) for the purpose of nominating:
Republican candidates for the Board of Supervisors Districts A, C and D to be voted upon in the general election held on November 7, 2017.
Balloting will begin at 10am and end at 2pm, except that anyone in the registration line at 2pm may continue the registration process and vote. The nomination process will be decided by the plurality of the votes cast at all balloting stations.
Qualifications for Participation
All legal and qualified voters of Montgomery County under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party of Virginia and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions, or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.
In addition to the foregoing, to be in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, unless otherwise stipulated by the appropriate Official Committee, a person otherwise qualified hereunder shall not have participated in Virginia in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party within the last five years.
A single exception to this shall be approved for a voter that renounces affiliation with any other party in writing, and who expresses in writing that he/she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends, at the time of this writing, to support the nominees of the Republican Party in the future. Any voter that utilizes the forgoing exception, and thereafter participates in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party, shall not have the benefit of the exception thereafter.
Each person offering to vote shall present a non-expired photographic identification issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia, one of its political subdivisions, or the United States Government or an Official Commonwealth of Virginia Voter Registration Card issued by the Montgomery County Registrar. No absentee voting or proxies will be permitted.
There will be no registration fee required to participate in this party canvass.
Any and all candidates for the Republican nomination at said canvass shall pre-file a written statement using the required candidate filing form by mail or in person together with a filing fee in the amount of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) by check made payable to the Montgomery County Republican Party of Virginia, and delivered to Jeff Richardson, care of Chris Tuck, PC Law Office located at 811 Triangle Street, Blacksburg, VA 24060 which must be received not later than 5:00 pm, Eastern Standard Time, Friday, April 7, 2017 (the “pre-filing deadline”). Candidates may also contact Jeff Richardson directly for in-person delivery of pre-filing form and $200 filing fee at: email@example.com.
Actual receipt is required and postmarks do not govern receipt. The required candidate filing form that must be completed and signed by any and all candidates and received with the required filing fee prior to the pre-filing deadline, may be obtained by request via email to Robert Dickenson, Chairman, Montgomery County Republican Party of Virginia: firstname.lastname@example.org.
