Steve Fijalkowski, Republican Candidate for District C

Steve Fijalkowski

Thirty four years ago Steve graduated from the State Police Academy and was assigned to Montgomery County.  He and Lynn raised their three girls here in the Shawsville community.  As a Trooper he had a unique perspective of the people who lived in this area and they both consider this place home.  After retirement Steve worked as a manager for a VDOT contractor gaining knowledge of budgeting, contract writing, and negotiating.  Steve is also a veteran serving twenty three years in the Army and Army Reserve.

As a Republican candidate for the Board of Supervisors in District C, Steve brings a lifetime of experience to the position.  He understands how to work within a budget to prevent increasing taxes, while managing to upgrade Montgomery’s roads, bridges, and schools.  The knowledge learned during his time working on a thirty million dollar VDOT contract spanning a four county area has prepared him for the board.  Steve has worked with many different organizations and people creating good relationships which allow goals to be reached by working together.  Lastly, Steve was recently endorsed by Gary Creed, the current board member of district C, to take over his current position.

Zach Milton, Republican candidate for District C

Zach Milton

Zach is a lifetime resident of Shawsville, Virginia.  He graduated from Eastern Montgomery High School in 2005 and in 2009 he Graduated from Roanoke College with a finance degree.  Zach currently works as a realtor with Graham & David real estate and he is also a co-operator of the Christiansburg livestock market.

Zach’s three main reasons for running for the District C seat are

  1. He is a fiscal conservative and wishes to cut wasteful spending.
  2. He believes in private property rights for the citizens of Montgomery County.
  3. He wants to bring in new businesses for Montgomery County.
A lifetime resident of Shawsville.

On his campaign site, Zach writes,

“As a lifelong resident of Eastern Montgomery, I know what policies are needed to jump start our economy and improve the quality of life of our residents. In fact, I’m running for two distinct reasons.

First, we need to increase our community’s population and retain talented individuals in order to boost economic development. I will work to improve access to affordable and quality housing. Simplifying the process to obtain rural high speed Internet access will also help achieve this goal.

Second, I will work to resolve issues affecting private property. As District C Supervisor, I will fight to keep real estate taxes low and maintain the current land use valuation. I will also work to reduce commercial property vacancy rates in our region and reform zoning rules so businesses can thrive in Eastern Montgomery.

My grandfather Joe Stewart was a farmer and former District C Supervisor for over twenty years. He instilled in me the values of hard work, determination and community service. I look forward to a positive campaign where I will share my values and vision with East Mont citizens.”

                         November 16, 2016

We did it!  Thank You, Thank You
I wanted to take this opportunity to express to each of you that helped with the election.  We could have done better in Montgomery County, but we took the Presidency and kept our wonderful Congressman, Morgan Griffith.
I remember back to our Mass Meeting in March of this year.  I spoke about “Volunteerism” and how much we needed for as many people as possible to get involved.  I said, “If you were to wake up on Wednesday morning after the election and found out that we have a Democratic President, the first thing you will say to yourself would be, why didn’t I help more?”  Well, you did.
Every time a need arose, we had volunteers.  You are all so great!
Now we can be assured of a Conservative Supreme Court, a larger and better Military, trade reforms, an actual reduction of federal regulations, an eye to the budget imbalance, and more.  You can look at all these issues and look at our Republican Creed.  It’s all there.  And you rose to this challenge!
I salute you all.  You deserve the credit.  I could list all the names of so many that stood up and said, “I can do that”.  But I would need much more space.  Our Sub-Committees all responded.  I am such a lucky person, in that, I have met so many new friends.  I hope to meet more.
And now, on to next year.  We will be having a Christmas Party. It would be great, even if you can only stay for a short time.
We will have our next monthly luncheon in January at Custom Catering.
I hope everyone can come.
Lastly, Go Trump!
Bob Dickenson, Chairman, Montgomery County GOP
Victory Party
All Republicans are invited to a Victory Party on Sunday, November 20. Come any time between  3:00-5:00PM  and celebrate our sweet victories with fellow Republicans !!!  Finger food and drinks will be available. The party is at the Republican Headquarters, 1655 Roanoke Street (End of mall behind Long John Silvers).  Trump/ Pence signs will be available!  Precinct Captains be sure and call your poll greeters and invite them to the victory party,
Christmas Party
Our Christmas Party will be Sunday, December 18th, at Nick Rush’s house, from 3:00 to 5:00. Nick’s address is 820 Hillcrest Dr.  Hillcrest Dr is the first right off of Depot St after passing Radford St going toward I-81.   After getting on Hillcrest it is a few blocks distance to Nick’s house on the left.  Everyone is invited!
Get Ready for Another Big Election Season
The elections of 2017 are going to again be important.  Besides the three state races, Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General there are three local House of Delegate races, Nick Rush of the 7th District, Greg Habeeb of the 8th District and Joseph Yost of the 12th District and several important local elections in the county and towns.  As you may know the state elections each has multiple candidates so there will be need for studied selection of the best representative in voting for the March primary.  The Montgomery County District Supervisors have three races; Annette Perkins of District A, Gary Creed of District C and Todd King of District D. Gary Creed who normally votes conservative will not be up for reelection so we need to have a candidate for this position.  The Montgomery County School Board has three races; Gunin Kiran of District A, James Lyons of District C and Jamie Bond of District D.  For the Town of Blacksburg, besides the Mayor Ron Rordam Council Members; Susan Anderson, Krisha Chachra and Cecile Newcomb are up for election.   The town of Christiansburg has the Mayor, D Michael Barber and Council Members; R Cord Hall, Steve Huppert and Bradford J “Brad” Stipes up for election.

A Big Thank You!: This campaign season has been long and has been very emotional at times.  A great deal of work has gone into everything we have been able to do so far.  More work is required before all this ends. our Chairman Bob Dickenson wants to take this time to personally thank each and every one of you who have done so much.  Thank you, thank you.  You are all super-heros to him!
